Following the announcement of Gérard Schneider's estate representation earlier this year, Perrotin is pleased to debut our first solo presentation of the artist's work at Independent Art Fair in New York. Pioneer of the Lyrical Abstraction movement, alongside his friends Georges Mathieu, Hans Hartung, and Pierre Soulages, Schneider became a leader within the radical Post-War Paris art scene. The movement's instinctual, dynamic approach to painting emerged as a counterpart to American Abstract Expressionism. In particular, Schneider's aesthetic is raw and vibrant, physical and unrestrained. Deeply inspired by music, his brushstrokes reflect his intention to translate pure emotion into painting.
In October, Perrotin Matignon will present a major retrospective of Schneider's work, in conjunction with an exhibition at Galerie Diane de Polignac. On this occasion, Gérard Schneider's digital and evolving catalogue raisonné will be put online.
